4 Eco-Friendly Finds Under $20. Are They Worth It?
1) Lush Cosmetics: Snow Fairy Body Conditioner This product keeps your skin soft and smooth without the use of plastic packaging. This solid moisturizer is meant to be applied on to wet skin. Simply smooth the product all over your body in the shower and rinse clean. Once you’re done using the product, either store in a dry and cool place or in the fridge to avoid melting. The Snow Fairy line is part of Lush’s Christmas collection. Lush does offer two all-year round body conditioners which are Ro’s Argan and Tingle.
Not worth it. This product smells incredible and it’s very easy to use. However, it must be applied quickly because it’s prone to melting. I’ve used this product 3 times and it’s drastically reduced in size. I believe I’ll be able to get 4-5 more uses out of it before it’s completely gone.
Thankfully I did purchase this product for 50% off on Boxing Day, otherwise it would be quite pricey for the original price of $11.95 for less than 10 uses. I didn’t find this body conditioner to be hydrating enough for the dry winters in Canada, but I would love to give this product another go in the spring/summer time.
2) Essence of Life: Pure Crystal Deodorant This natural, safe, and effective deodorant contains one ingredient, potassium alum salt. Essence of Life Organics’ crystal alum comes packaged in a sustainably harvest cork and a paper label, both of which are biodegradable. Simply wet the stone and apply to underarms. The alum salt naturally prevents odour without intervening with your body’s natural chemistry.
Worth it! I am a huge fan of crystal deodorants. They’re safe and incredibly effective. I love that this crystal comes in biodegradable packaging, as the ones in stores always come in plastic. My only issue with crystal deodorants is that they break easily.
I’ve dropped a few by accident and kept the pieces big enough to use. For the ones that I didn’t drop, they’ve cracked when in contact with warm water. However, it hasn’t stopped me from purchasing them time and time again. I’d advise anyone trying crystal deodorants for the first time to handle them gently and be mindful of the temperature.
3) MiHair: Wheat Scalp Massager Revitalize your scalp with this eco-friendly scalp massager. The upper body of this scalp massager is made from wheat, which is biodegradable, anti-bacterial, and non-toxic. The bristles are made from soft silicone. While silicone isn’t biodegradable, it is still an eco-friendlier alternative. With frequent use, it will help to improve circulation, promote hair growth, and reduce hair loss.
Worth it! Since I’ve incorporated a scalp massager into my hair care routine, I’ve been able to go longer without washing my hair. This is because it gently yet effectively removes product build up, stimulates hair circulation, and removes dandruff.
No matter how much I scrub and work the shampoo into my hair with my fingers, it’s never felt as clean as it has using this tool. You can find scalp massagers anywhere; however, they’re mostly made from plastic. I highly recommend this wheat scalp massager; you will see and feel the difference in your hair!
4) Lush Cosmetics: American Cream Conditioner Lush’s American Cream Conditioner is a package-free and travel-friendly alternative to hair care that come in plastic bottles. The blend of lavender oil, fresh fruit juices, and agave syrup balances oil, adds shine, and locks in hydration.
Worth it! I love everything about this solid conditioner. It smells wonderful, isn’t prone to melting, leaves your hair feeling silky smooth, and doesn’t break into pieces when you drop it. I’ve been using American Cream for five months now and it’s still at a decent size. This is a huge step up from Lush’s past and discontinued conditioning bars. If you get a chance to visit their stores, I recommend that you ask for a sample.
Looking for eco-friendly swaps can be challenging, but I’m happy that 3 out of 4 products were worth it. This journey is all about trial and error and I’m excited to continue trying new products. Have you made any eco-friendly swaps recently? What are some eco-friendly products that are worth it and not worth it for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I LOVE Lush’s Snow Fairy scent, but it’s a shame you don’t get many uses out of their body conditioner.
I’ve been looking for a new natural deodorant so I’ll definitely have to look into the Pure one. I’ve also seen the plastic scalp massagers for sale here, so I’ll look into the Wheat one for a nonplastic alternative!
Her Digital Coffee says
The Snow Fairy scent is so lovely! If it wasn’t so quick to melt, I’d definitely get more. Thank you for reading Karalee!

Cora @ TeaPartyPrincess says
A scalp massager changed my hair. I don’t have to wash it as often and it’s so much more clean. I also don’t have flakes any longer. Absolute game changer. And it’s reusable, it’ll be around for a long time and be used over and over again.
I haven’t found a solid shampoo that works for me yet unfortunately.

A scalp massager is definitely a game changer! Shampoo bars can be tricky. I’ve tried many before loving Lush’s Honey I Washed My Hair bar. I hope you find one that works for you soon! Thank you for reading Cora!
Kelly says
I tried an eco-friendly bar shampoo and conditioner similar to the Lush one you’ve been using and I love it. I can’t believe how much they lather up, and my hair always feels great afterwards. It’s a shame about the Lush conditioning bar, it sounded great at first until you said it has shrunk in size. Thanks for sharing x
Her Digital Coffee says
Shampoo bars are incredible. You’re right about the lather! As much as I love the idea of the conditioning bar, it is a shame that it melts so quickly. I’m hoping there will be a new formulation soon that prevents this. Thank you for reading Kelly!
Anke says

Her Digital Coffee says
