Zero waste swaps are known as products come completely package free or otherwise “naked.” A majority of naked products are made with natural and sustainably sourced ingredients and there are cruelty-free and vegan options available as well. Some of these naked products include shampoo bars, conditioner bars, exfoliating bars, body bars, and more.
Zero waste products can be pricey so it’s important to make sure there is a good return or exchange policy. Some common themes with naked products is they can be too greasy, heavily scented, or if you’re ordering online, they can melt during shipping and come with packaging. To ensure you find the right products for you, I recommend doing product research by reading reviews and reaching out to stores if you have questions.
Shampoo and Conditioning Bars
Say goodbye to plastic bottles and pumps and say hello to solid shampoo and conditioning bars. Shampoos and conditioners are solidified and packed into a bar form. Typically one bar can replace up to 3 bottles of regular shampoo or last up to 80 washes. These bars are great for travel, so you don’t have to worry about leaks or if you have enough room in your carry on liquids bag.

Bar Soaps
Keep things simple in your kitchen and bathroom by swapping out liquid hand soaps that come in plastic bottles to a regular bar of soap. By using a soap saver, your bar of soap will last much longer and there’s no plastic to worry about! If you’re looking for cruelty-free and natural soaps, I recommend visiting Rocky Mountain Soap Company. They offer the option of purchasing their soaps without the plastic packaging in stores, just ask!
Exfoliating Bars
Did you know that many popular exfoliating beauty products contain microplastics? Switch to an exfoliating bar that’s not only plastic free but contains natural ingredients such as oats, coarse sea salt, ground almonds, coffee grounds, etc. Exfoliating bars are gentle and contain hydrating ingredients that are usually moisturizing enough to skip another application of lotion after you shower.
Body/Lotion Bars
Body bars are a solid form of lotion that slowly melts when it comes in contact with body heat. They are very hydrating and a little product goes a long way. Start by warming the product in your hands and then massaging the product onto your skin. Some body bars can feel greasy and heavy, while others may not be moisturizing enough. I recommend trying body bar whenever possible to ensure you like the texture and hydration.
I hope this post will inspire you to switch your regular plastic products for naked ones. It may seem like a simple swap but it truly makes a huge impact on our planet. Which products are you excited to try? Are there any products not on this list you’d recommend? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
