Journaling is an important tool that’s been proven to be beneficial for our mental health. It allows us to reflect on a deeper level. We can choose to write about our goals, organize our thoughts, inspire new ideas, relieve stress, and much more.
Some choose to journal physically through pen and paper, while others choose to do so electronically through their phones or computers. However you choose to do it, the idea is the same. There is no right or wrong way to journal, it’s a safe place where we can release our innermost thoughts without judgement. If you’re new to journaling or just need that push to get back into it, here are 5 benefits that will help and inspire you on your journey.
1) Your Goals We all have hopes and dreams that we can achieve through setting goals. The idea of goal setting may be intimidating to some, but the key is to start small and be realistic. As you start to achieve your goals one by one, you can reflect on what you’ve accomplished and use it as motivation for future endeavors.
2) Organize Your Thoughts Overthinking is something we’re all guilty of. When your mind starts to jump from one thought to another it can end up becoming a never ending cycle. Journaling is a tool that we can utilize to organize our thoughts. It’ll help relieve tension and allow you to move on from whatever may be plauging your thoughts.
3) Reminders Journaling isn’t just for emotional and or creative purposes, it can also act as an agenda. Jot down things that require your attention. This may include paying your bills, sending an e-mail, your grocery list, upcoming birthdays, deadlines, and more.
4) Relieve Stress Our journals act as a healthy outlet for our stressors. Whatever may be bothering you, stressing you out, or causing your frustrations, may be all let out in a safe space. When we release our thoughts and feelings, we can easily identify the root cause for our issues. Once you let it all out, I guarantee you’ll feel as though a weight has been lifted off your shoulders.
5) Practicing Gratitude Take a moment out of your day to reflect on the things that you’re grateful for. Often times these things can be overlooked, but when we practice appreciating even the smallest things, it can change the way you handle and approach things in the future.
There are plenty more reasons why journaling is beneficial, but I hope these 5 have inspired you to get started or get back into it. Do you like to journal physically or electronically? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments! For more posts on productivity, visit my tag here.
