Summer is near, which means it’s time to slow down, soak up the sun, and enjoy some good books. I’ll be carving out some time to finally tackle the books that have been waiting patiently on my TBR list.

I’m excited to dive into classic bestsellers like Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi, along with anticipated new thrillers like With a Vengeance by Riley Sager. Here are 5 books I’m excited to read this summer.
Tackling My TBR List: 5 Books I’m Excited to Read

1) Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu
Genre: Fantasy, Fiction
Order on Amazon
From the publisher: In a small back alley in Tokyo, there is a café which has been serving carefully brewed coffee for more than one hundred years. But this coffee shop offers its customers a unique experience: the chance to travel back in time. But the journey does not come without risks: customers must sit in a particular seat, they cannot leave the café, and they must return to the present before the coffee gets cold.
Why I want to read it: I first came across this book at the bookstore and soon realized that it’s part of a series. It’s an interesting concept and I love that we get to meet new characters and learn their stories at this coffee shop.
2) The Staircase in the Woods by Chuck Wendig
Genre: Horror, Mystery/Thriller
Order on Amazon
From the publisher: Five high school friends are bonded by an oath to protect one another no matter what. Then, on a camping trip in the middle of the forest, they find something a mysterious staircase to nowhere. One friend walks up—and never comes back down. Then the staircase disappears. Twenty years later, the staircase has reappeared. Now the group returns to find the lost boy—and what lies beyond the staircase in the woods.

Why I want to read it: I’ve heard many stories about mysterious stairs in the middle of the woods, whether it’s on a paranormal podcast or on the No Sleep Reddit thread, and this is the first book that I’ve seen that explores it.

3) With a Vengeance by Riley Sager
Genre: Mystery/Thriller
Order on Amazon
From the publisher: In 1942, six people destroyed Anna Matheson’s family. Twelve years later, she’s ready for retribution. Anna has lured those responsible for her family’s downfall onto a luxury train from Philadelphia to Chicago. Her goal? Confront the people who’ve wronged her, get them to confess their crimes, and deliver them into the hands of authorities waiting at the end of the line.
Why I want to read it: It’s not summer without a new release from Riley Sager. It’s almost like a tradition for me to reach for his books during this time of year.
4) The Tenant by Freida McFadden
Genre: Horror, Mystery/Thriller
Order on Amazon
From the publisher: Blake Porter is riding high, until he’s not. Fired abruptly from his job as a VP of marketing and unable to make the mortgage payments on the new brownstone that he shares with his fiancee, he’s desperate to make ends meet. Enter Whitney. Beautiful, charming, down-to-earth, and looking for a room to rent. She’s exactly what Blake’s looking for. Or is she?

Why I want to read it: I’ve only read one book by Freida McFadden and I wasn’t a huge fan. I’m looking forward to giving her work another try with her latest release.

5) Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree
Genre: Fantasy, Fiction
Order on Amazon
From the publisher: The battle-weary orc aims to start fresh, opening the first ever coffee shop in the city of Thune. But old and new rivals stand in the way of success — not to mention the fact that no one has the faintest idea what coffee actually is. But the true rewards of the uncharted path are the travelers you meet along the way. And whether drawn together by ancient magic, flaky pastry, or a freshly brewed cup, they may become partners, family, and something deeper than she ever could have dreamed.
Why I want to read it: This has been on my list for years now. I don’t typically read fantasy, but it sounds like a perfect cozy read and I love that it’s about a coffee shop that brings people together.
From emotional journeys to heart-racing thrillers, I’m looking forward to making these stories part of my summer experience. Which book has been sitting on your TBR list the longest? I’m interested to know!

What a great range of books here! I also want to read The Tenant, heard a lot of good things about it. I have read The staircase in the woods, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did 😊

I’m glad to hear that, Roxanne. Happy reading!
I love fantasy and like coziness a bit in a fantasy setting, but for some reason I haven’t been able to get into cozy fantasy, but a lot of people keep talking about Legends and Lattes, and I keep thinking maybe. The oldest book in my kindle library is How Not to Be Popular by Jennifer Ziegler and I bought it in 2010, but I am not sure if I am interested in it. If we are talking about something I do plan on reading for sure is All Fall Down by Ally Carter which I got in 2016, and I want to get the third book in the series so I can read it all at once, and The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan which I got in 2023, I just have been waiting until I purchased the whole series so I could read it all at once but those are authors I know I will love.
I’m glad you have 2 series that you’re looking forward to. It’s nice to enjoy it all at once so it’s still fresh in your mind. Thanks for reading Tiffany!
I’ve seen these all over my bookstagram. I haven’t been reading as much since I moved. Hope to tackle my tbr soon.
