The Mountain Is You is a self-help book that dives into how to transform self-sabotage into self-mastery. Oftentimes we view mountains as a metaphor for big obstacles that seem impossible to overcome. Wiest guides the reader towards understanding that we can scale our mountains by doing the internal work, which will give us the proper tools and mindset to realizing our true potential.

To have a mountain in front of you does not mean you are fundamentally broken in some way. Everything in nature is imperfect, and it is because of that imperfection that growth is possible. The fact that you are imperfect is not a sign that you have failed; it is a sign that you are human, and more importantly, it is a sign that you still have more potential within you.

This is my second time re-visiting The Mountain Is You and I am so glad I gave this book a second chance. The first time I read this book, I had to put it down because I wasn’t a fan of the formatting. It’s filled with long paragraphs, short paragraphs, lots of spacing, and isn’t well organized it categories. It was hard to follow at times but once I got used to the formatting, I found the information in this book to be very impactful.
Wiest shares practical strategies most of which are backed by references. This is a great book to refer to if you’re looking for a good balance between personal experiences and basic scientific research. There are so many powerful statements in this book and I recommend having a highlighter handy.
Your new life is going to cost you your old one. It’s going to cost you your comfort zone and your sense of direction. It’s going to cost you being liked and understood. You’re going to build a new comfort zone around the things that actually move you forward. Instead of being liked, you’re going to be loved. Instead of being understood, you’re going to be seen. All you’re going to lose is what was built for a person you no longer are.

The Mountain Is You is a powerful book that you can take your time with. Once you’ve finished it, it’s one that you can continue to refer to time and time again. I definitely recommend this read for anyone that’s looking to focusing on self-development. I guarantee you’ll find some inspiration and favorite quotes along the way.
