At the edge of the woods sits a dark and secluded motel. Armed with a fake ID, a .38 revolver, and a violent lover now disappearing in her rear-view mirror, Eve believes she’s safe at the isolated motel. As she falls asleep, she can’t shake the unsettling sounds coming from the other side of the motel walls. With every creak and crash heightening her anxiety, she won’t find peace until she uncovers the source of the mysterious noises.

The Sleep Tight Motel is part of Amazon’s Original Stories, The Dark Corners Series. It consists of 7 short stories by bestselling authors that’ll get your heart racing just in time for spooky season. These books were published in 2018 and I don’t believe this is an on-going series from Amazon, which is too bad, but it’s the perfect addition for those who love short scary stories.
One of my favorite settings for horror is a secluded motel. Unger masterfully captures the eerie atmosphere of a remote motel nestled on the edge of a dark, encroaching forest, crafting a backdrop that is both unsettling and compelling. It evokes a similar sense of suspense to Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.
This story kept me on the edge of my seat, with twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. It did leave behind one loose end, which I typically don’t prefer, but in this case, it added to the mystery surrounding the motel, its manager, and its history. If you’re searching for a quick and engaging read to embrace the fall season, I highly recommend The Sleep Tight Motel. Get your copy on Amazon today.
