Are you overwhelmed with professional and personal tasks? Do you find it difficult to stay organized and on track? If so, I’ve got 6 effective tips to help you with your organization.
The idea of organization may seem overwhelming, but it all boils down to finding a routine and system that works for you. What works for your friend or colleague, may not work for you, and that’s okay. It’s all about finding your rhythm and once you do, you’ll begin to stress less and become more efficient in your daily life. Here are 6 effective tips to be more organized.
1) Create a Routine A daily routine provides structure and keeps us focused on the task(s) at hand. Not only does a routine keep us disciplined but we become more efficient with how we utilize our time. It may take weeks or months to create a good routine with healthy habits, but the journey along the way will allow you to learn more about what works and what doesn’t.
2) Create an Action Plan At the beginning of each day, take a moment to create a realistic list of things that require your attention. Separate your tasks into two categories, work and personal. You can do this manually with a pen and paper or electronically through your phone or computer. I like to keep track of my tasks through the Stickies app on my computer. When things are written down and in plain sight, it lessens the stress of trying to remember what tasks are due and taking on too much at once.
Organization isn’t about perfection; it’s about efficiency, reducing stress and clutter, saving time and money, and improving your overall quality of life.

3) Use Tools There are so many tools available to us and the key is finding one that works for you. These tools can be journals, whiteboards, sticky notes, apps on your phone, or programs on your computer. I’m always open to trying new things and have found I’m much more productive and organized when I keep things digitally on my computer. I especially found that creating separate calendars for work and personal tasks have been very effective.
4) Take it Slow Trying new tools, routines, and adjustments for organization can be exciting, however, it’s important to note that good habits take time. Take things slow and be patient with yourself. You don’t need to wake up one day and have it all together. This journey of self-discovery and self-improvement will take time, so enjoy the process.
A good system shorts the road to the goal.

5) Declutter Whether you prefer to work with paper or digital files, decluttering your physical and digital space is the most effective way to stay organized. Save time rummaging for files by keeping and storing only what you need.
6) Track Your Progress It’s important to track your progress along the way to celebrate your wins and see what areas require improvement. You can either do this at the end of the week or at the end of the month. If you’ve found that using a new tool didn’t help with organization or productivity, see what else is out there and try new methods. Don’t be discouraged if you aren’t seeing results right away. It can take weeks or months to find what works, but it’s out there I promise!
I hope you’ve picked up some tips on how to be more organized in your professional and personal life. What tools help you stay organized? Are there any tips you’d like to add? I’d love to hear your thoughts. For more posts relating to productivity, visit my tag here.

Having an action plan is definitely what helps me the most when it comes to staying organized. I’m very perfectionist, and I know that’s a big downside of mine because I put way too much pressure on myself and then forget to actually enjoy what I’m doing.
When I create some kind of organizational plan, at least I have some structure, and I can follow it and feel at least a little bit achieved at the end of the day, and that just helps a lot!

I can definitely relate. I’m happy you’ve found a practical way to stay organized. Thank you for reading Sam!

Hi Winnie,
Those are some great tips to help us all be more organised. Life can be pretty hectic sometimes – and if you don’t manage it properly it’ll chew you up and spit you out! 😉
I find that a key part of point 2 (Action plan) for me is to prioritise – what needs doing immediately and what can be deferred, what must you do personally and what can you ask a co-worker to help with, etc etc.
Her Digital Coffee says
Those are great things to prioritize in your action plan, especially seeing what tasks you can ask for help with. Thank you for reading Richie!
