Brooke Goodwin is desperate for a fresh start, and she can’t wait to put the past behind her after graduation. Ever since she threw that party at her parents’ lake house and “the incident” happened, someone is convinced that she’s hiding the truth, leaving her threatening calls, newspaper clippings about that night, and slashing her tires.

After one final celebration before college, Brooke finds herself on a desolate road, pursued by an ominous truck. Her phone lights up with ‘No Caller ID’ and the voice over the phone gives her a choice… Tell the truth or she won’t survive the night.
I typically don’t read a lot of young adult books, but I really enjoyed Lally’s debut novel, That’s Not My Name, so it felt natural to pick this one up. This book definitely leaned more into the young adult genre than her debut, with predictable themes, cringey dialogue, and one-dimensional characters.
No Place Left to Hide has a similar feel to the TV show Pretty Little Liars or the movie I Know What You Did Last Summer. The characters in this story are meant to be unlikeable, which isn’t something that I had expected going into this book. I’ve noticed that Lally likes to put her own spin on things, and while this book didn’t blow me away, I can appreciate where she decided to take this story.
Besides those several critiques, I really enjoyed the fast-paced action scenes and the satisfying ending, which felt redeeming for what it was and earns the 3-star rating. If you’re a fan of Lally’s work, love young adult thrillers, or enjoy a quick read, then this may be the book for you. Get your copy on Amazon today.

Thanks for sharing this review! I used to love reading and watching the Pretty Little Liars series, so it’s cool to hear that this reminded you of that. I’ll have to definitely check out the other book this author wrote, I heard great things about it!

I’d recommend it! Thank you for reading Melissa.
Thanks for sharing. I loved her debut but I saw the reviews for this one were a little mixed. Guess I’ll be skipping this one.
There’s definitely a contrast between her debut and her latest novel. Thanks for reading!

Excellent review Winnie. You’ve done a great job of providing both what worked in the book and as well as what didn’t work.
