After going through hardships in his late twenties, Pasricha started a blog called 1000 Awesome Things. He would then go on to post short essays about one small joy for the next 1000 straight weekdays. His essays began to gain traction to the point where he was invited to accept the “Best Blog” award in New York City by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.
When he returned home to Toronto, he had ten literary agents reaching out to turn 1000 Awesome Things into The Book of Awesome. Once it was released in 2010 it landed on the New York Times best sellers list and over the next two years he would continue to write a handful of sequels. More than 10 years later, Pasricha decided to release another one, this one including awesome points from his community of readers.
What makes something awesome? Awesome things can be simple, free, universal, snappy, idiosyncratic, nostalgic, silly, joyous, poignant, or even bittersweet.
neil pasricha, our book of awesome.
Our Book of Awesome was the perfect book to start off the new year. I especially loved the comments and submissions from his worldwide audience. I had a blast highlighting some of my favorite ones along with starring several everyday joys that I’d love to experience this year. Here are some of my favorite from Our Book of Awesome,
• When your friend returns your book and they actually read it
• Remembering the attachment right before sending the email
• When the crosswalk changes to walk just as you approach it
• Making it though airport security without any beeps
• Reading a whole book cover to cover in one go
• Getting 21 chicken nuggets instead of 20
• Holding your driver’s license for the first time
• The first warm day of Spring
I would happily recommend Our Book of Awesome to all readers. I can guarantee that you’ll smile and have some laughs along the way. Although this book seems long in length, the content is short and easy to get through. You can finish this book in an hour like I did or pick it up whenever you need a sweet reminder of the simple joys in life. Order your copy on Amazon today. What are some of your simple joys? I’d love to hear them!
