As August rolls in and summer slowly winds down, it’s the perfect time to refresh your workspace. Whether you’re working from home, getting ready for a new semester, or simply spending more time at your desk, you can create a workspace that feels fresh, functional, and inspiring for the new season ahead.
1) Clear the Clutter Start with a full reset by going through your desk and drawers. Shred those papers, put away your mugs, and organize those random cords. Create a system such as filing, storing, tossing, and donating, so that you’re only putting back what you use and reach for often.
2) Reorganize with Purpose Is your current setup working for you? Maybe it’s time to move your printer within arm’s reach, store away unused cables, or create a dedicated spot for daily essentials. This allows for functionality, easy access, and better flow.
3) Update Your Lighting As we start to lose daylight earlier, good lighting becomes essential. Consider adding a warm desk lamp or adjusting your current setup to reduce eye strain. Good lighting can make your workspace feel cozier, more inviting, and creates a focused atmosphere, especially for evening work sessions.

4) Decorate Your workspace should reflect your personality. You can easily switch it up by adding new art prints that reflect the new season, adding a touch of nature with plants and flowers, and a seasonal candle. It’s amazing how a small change in visual scenery can reignite motivation and create a calm workspace.
5) Digital Declutter I’ve touched on this point a few times on this website but spending some time clearing unused files and organizing your desktop can greatly improve your productivity. Decluttering your digital files can help reduce mental noise and make things flow smoother.

6) Create a Cozy Corner If space allows, consider creating a cozy corner where you can take quick breaks. Add a comfy chair with a soft throw and pillows. Productivity isn’t always about work, it’s also about taking breaks and resting when needed.
It’s easy to overlook the importance of refreshing our workspace. Beyond tidying up and wiping down the desk, we don’t always consider how small changes can improve the way our space works and flows. Let your space support your goals, creativity, and well-being. How will you be refreshing your space for the new season? I’d love to know.

Thank you for these tips! We just had a general cleaning, but my workspace is still cluttered. LMAO. I don’t know which things to throw away or give away. Honestly, I think I need an organizer for some of the things on my desk. I also need to adjust the lighting because it affects how I work.
