Are you ready to embrace the cold? I know I am! I’ve been diligently working towards completing my 2022 Reading Challenge on Goodreads when I started to notice a reoccurring theme. As a fan of cold weather and thrillers, it comes as no surprise that a majority of books that I’ve read and still have yet to complete all take place in seclusion during the wintertime. If you’re a fan of thrillers, I challenge you to embrace the cold and add some of these winter themed thrillers to your TBR list!

From the publisher: During the languid days of the Christmas break, a group of thirtysomething friends from Oxford meet to welcome in the New Year together, a tradition they began as students ten years ago. For this vacation, they’ve chosen an idyllic and isolated estate in the Scottish Highlands—the perfect place to get away and unwind by themselves. Amid the boisterous revelry of New Year’s Eve, the cord holding them together snaps, just as a historic blizzard seals the lodge off from the outside world. Two days later, on New Year’s Day, one of them is dead and another of them did it.

From the publisher: Getting snowed in at a beautiful, rustic mountain chalet doesn’t sound like the worst problem in the world. But what happens when that company is eight of your coworkers and you can’t trust any of them? When an off-site company retreat meant to promote mindfulness and collaboration goes utterly wrong when an avalanche hits, the corporate food chain becomes irrelevant and survival trumps togetherness. Come Monday morning, how many members short will the team be? Read my review here.

From the publisher: On her way to Utah to see her dying mother, Darby Thorne gets caught in a fierce blizzard in the mountains of Colorado. With the roads impassable, she’s forced to wait out the storm at a remote highway rest stop. Inside are four complete strangers. Desperate to find a signal to call home, Darby goes back out into the storm and makes a horrifying discovery. In the back of the van parked next to her car, a little girl is locked in an animal crate. Who can she trust? Read my review here.

From the publisher: It was supposed to be one night in the cabin for Lottie and her brand new stepsister, Jade, to try to get along. When a solar flare causes a massive blackout, Lottie knows they’ve got a long night ahead of them. Then, in the dark, someone else shows up at the cabin―a stranger named Alex, needing shelter. But later that night, Lottie spies him in the driveway talking to two mysterious men in a pickup truck, and she’s sure he’s lying about why he’s here. The storm isn’t the only thing they’ll have to survive. Read my review here.

From the publisher: FBI Agent Shannon Ames is headed to the north country for some much-needed R&R when a sudden ice storm traps her in the small hamlet of Long Lake, NY. But the storm isn’t her only problem – as she rolls into town she finds a body by the side of the road. As Shannon begins to investigate, she realises she’s not the only person trapped here – there are two vicious killers stalking the town. And with no way in or out, it’s up to Shannon to stop them before they hurt someone else. Read my review here.
7) The Shuddering by Ania Ahlborn
Goodreads Rating: 3.73

From the publisher: A group of close friends gathers at a secluded cabin in the wintry mountains of Colorado for a final holiday hurrah. Instead, it may be their last stand. First a massive blizzard leaves them marooned. Then the more chilling realization: something is lurking in the woods, watching them, waiting… The only hope for those huddled inside is to fight—tooth and nail, bullet and blade—for their lives. Otherwise, they’ll end up like the monsters’ other victims: bright pools of blood on glittering snow, screams lost in the vast mountains.
That concludes my recommendations for this year’s winter themed thrillers. Have you read any of the books on this list? Are there any of your favorites that you’d like to add?
