Her Digital Coffee official turns three! It’s hard to believe that three years have gone by, with each year being even better than the last. It continues to be a rewarding journey and I’m grateful that I’m able to explore my creativity and share them with readers from around the world.
This year, I decided to tackle three of the most common blogging questions that I’ve come across. It’s exciting to share my personal experiences with blogging because it highlights how unique each one of our experiences are.
How do I pick a niche?
The first question you should ask yourself is, what are you passionate about? It may be easy to choose a niche that’s popular or trending, but if you want to create something that has lasting power, it has to be something that you’re passionate about.
When I first started blogging, my main focus was beauty. However, over the years I found that sticking to one specific niche held me back creatively. When I decided to start a new blog, I spend a lot of time thinking about what I was passionate about and ultimately decided that starting a lifestyle blog would give me more creative freedom.
There may be thousands of lifestyle, fashion, and fitness blogs on the internet, but what makes them each shine is our own unique and individual personalities and experiences. When you’re writing about things that you’re passionate about, it translates through your work. This will help you to attract an authentic audience that can connect with you.
How often should I post?
What I’ve learned over the years is that it doesn’t matter how often you post, as long as you’re consistent. Whether you’re posting once a week, twice a week, or even twice a month. Having a regular posting schedule keeps your audience engaged, informed, and eager for more.
I didn’t realize the importance of consistency until I came across a video several years ago where a creator described it perfectly. She said imagine that you are channel-surfing and stumble upon a TV show that you like, but there’s no information about when the next episode airs. Frustrating, right? No matter how amazing your content may be, if your audience doesn’t have that information, then they can’t commit to tuning in. While some may diligently check for updates, the majority may just move on.
That tiny bit of information truly opened my eyes to how important it is to be consistent. This doesn’t mean that you can’t take breaks or time away from your blog, because life happens! It just means that when you first get started, if your goal is to grow your website, attract readers, and work with brands, then it’s important to establish a realistic posting schedule that you can maintain so people know where and when they can find you.
What should I avoid as a new blogger?
Avoid staying in your comfort zone, comparing yourself to others, and be open to learning as much as you can because the learning never stops. This includes SEO, plug-ins, new platforms, social media marketing, engaging with readers and your community, and more.
I didn’t pay much attention to SEO when I first started, which means I’m spending more time now going back and editing my work. It’s a lot of information to take in all at once, but it’s crucial to the success of your blog.
Thank you for joining me in celebrating three years of Her Digital Coffee. I’m so grateful for your support, whether you’re new to this journey or have been with me from the beginning. This experience has helped me grow in so many ways and I’m thankful for the chance to continue to share my passions with you. Fellow writers, what’s one piece of advice you’d give to new bloggers? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Congrats to 3 years! You should feel so proud of yourself. Some people don’t realize how much work goes into blogging, and nine times out of ten will stop blogging in less than a year. Hitting 3 years is a huge milestone. I just found your blog and am looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us in this coming year 🙂 xx

Congratulations on 3 years of blogging! It was great to read your answers to the most common blogging questions. I was the same as you and I started with a beauty niche, but it became boring. A lifestyle niche fits my interests better and I can still do the occasional beauty post! Also, I completely agree it’s important to be consistent, and learning about SEO is useful!
Her Digital Coffee says
Thank you Karalee! I’m glad to hear that switching niches has allowed you to branch out as well.

Congratulations and happy 3 years! That’s brilliant! Thank you for sharing, I definitely need to get out of my comfort zone with my site. It’s strange because I love getting out of my comfort zone by trying new things, but when it comes to my on-line stuff, it all feels so hugely personal and makes me feel massively out of my depth!
Here’s to the next year! I’m sure you’ll be up to brilliant stuff!
