Alison offers thousands of free courses online. They work with subject matter experts (SMEs) from education, business, to government agencies to create courses on the platform. Some of these course categories include IT, language, marketing, and health. For new bloggers who are reading this, there are courses on Google Analytics, Digital Skills, Introduction to WordPress, and more!
Alison also offers digital, printed, and framed certification for their certificate and diploma courses. Purchasing certification is completely optional. If you choose not to, it will not disrupt you from finishing your course. For those who are interested, certification ranges from $30 – $55 CAD and can be purchased securely through their website. The sales generated from certification, running ads, and offering a premium package (which removes ads) is how Alison offers courses for free. I personally haven’t used Alison’s certification, but I’ve read many favourable reviews for those who have.
My Thoughts
I discovered Alison many years ago when I was looking to expand my knowledge in business and language. I was thrilled to choose topics that I was interested in without having to worry about any fees. Although the ads were distracting at times, it’s a small price to pay for getting a course for free.
The upside is that Alison offers a premium package for $12 CAD to remove ads if they are posing a huge distraction. Overall, I enjoyed the course structures and found the material to be informative and valuable. You can expect to see PowerPoints, video lectures, along with quizzes at the end of each unit to test your knowledge.
We are lifelong learners and should always strive to challenge ourselves. There are so many resources available at our fingertips and it’s time we take advantage of it. Hello, I’ve totally forgotten about Alison which I discovered many years ago too when I started my online learning journey. You are absolutely right that the ads can be a bit distracting but if you get a good course for free that is indeed a small price to pay. This year, I didn’t do any resolutions. They never work out for me and I decided to simply go with the flow. So I’ve signed up to a couple of free courses about your Warrior Goddess energy, discovering how female power works and a life coaching course which simply turned up on my feed and which called out to me.
