As the weather gets warmer, we are all craving more time outdoors. But for those who suffer from seasonal allergies, it can be the most frustrating time of the year. Rather than choose between enjoying the sunshine or dealing with sneezing and congestion, I have 5 natural ways you can ease your allergy symptoms.

I’ve been battling with severe allergy symptoms for years. Rather than relying on allergy medication time and time again, which leaves me feeling drowsy and restless, I started looking for natural alternatives. I’ve tried everything from natural supplements that contained quail egg to salt therapy. While those options didn’t make a huge difference, I’d like to share some that did. Here are 5 natural ways to ease your allergy symptoms this allergy season.
1) Use Steam Using steam is an easy and effective way to ease congestion and sinus pressure/pain. The simplest way to do this is to take a hot shower or a hot bath. You can also add a shower tablets that release essential oils such as eucalyptus, which helps with congestion.
Another method includes carefully filling a bowl with hot water, leaning over the bowl, and placing a small towel over your head to trap the steam. If you’re looking for a product that’ll make it easier, you can try a facial steamer. If you have a gym membership or building amenities, you can use a sauna or a steam room.
2) Flush it Out If you’re battling with nasal allergies, dryness, or sinus pressure/pain, try using a Neti Pot. It took me a while to feel comfortable using one, but when I did, I noticed a huge difference. My sinuses felt clearer, my headache subsided, and best of all, I didn’t have to rely on allergy medication. Be sure to read the instructions carefully, use distilled or water that’s been boiled, (not tap water) and keep your Neti Pot clean.
3) Stay Hydrated Staying hydrated is important and beneficial for our overall health, but it’s especially important during allergy season. Combat dry eyes, dry nose, and an itchy throat by drinking more water. Water helps to thin out mucus, which allows your body to easily get rid of external irritants.
4) Eat Healthy Rather than relying on daily supplements, try incorporating healthier foods into your diet. Foods such as garlic, ginger, and oranges are a perfect start for boosting your immune system. Garlic is known for its great antibacterial properties and ginger for its anti-inflammatory properties. Oranges not only taste delicious, but they offer hydration and vitamin C which helps the body’s functioning of the immune system and healing.

5) Invest in an Air Purifier Keep your windows closed this allergy season and invest in an air purifier. I’ve been using one from Levoit and I can’t speak highly enough about it. It’s sleek, compact, and portable. Since my allergies tend to be pretty bad year-round, I keep mine running for over 10+ hours per day. I’ve been using mine for over 2 years now and I’m super impressed that it’s still in great condition.
6) Essential Oils Saje’s Allergy Release is my go-to all-natural product during allergy season. I’ve been using this cruelty-free and vegan friendly blend for several years now. It’s incredibly effective for easing allergy symptoms and skin irritations. This calming blend of lemon, myrrh, and peppermint smells fresh without being overpowering. You can apply a small amount on your forehead and sinus areas or use it as a spot treatment for skin irritations.
7) Wash Your Clothing After you’ve come home from a long day, make sure you wash or separate the clothing that you’ve worn outdoors. Do not hang them in your room or closet, as dust, allergens, and pollen can be easily trapped in our clothing.
I hope these natural remedies help to soothe your allergy symptoms this allergy season. Do you suffer from allergies? Do you have any natural remedies you’d like to share? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
