Ginette Cox is the talk of the town, and everyone seems to think there’s something wrong with her. As she moves from New York City to a quieter suburban home, the only thing that cures her boredom is by watching her neighbours.

Ginette soon discovers that it’s not so peaceful or quiet in suburbia. She can’t sleep and there are strange noises coming from the basement. The worst thing of all is that she can’t bring herself to leave the house. Are the rumors about Ginnette true? Or is there something more sinister about this house?
Ghost 19 is a well-written short thriller from Simone St. James. I enjoyed her previous work, The Sun Down Motel, and was confident that this would be a great story as well. I liked the characters, the tone, and the short chapters. St. James is incredible at giving you goosebumps with the way she describes movements, eerie details, and the way she masterfully creates dark atmospheres.
Since Ghost 19 is a short story, there are some holes and it leaves a lot of things up for interpretation for the readers. There’s enough substance in this story that it could’ve been a full novel that dives deeper into the history of the house, the neighbors, and Cox’s past, but for a short thriller the story was enjoyable.
If you’re a fan of short eerie thrillers that take place in the 50s, I definitely recommend Ghost 19. At 80 pages, you can easily finish this in one evening or enjoy it over the weekend. It’s the perfect short story to add to your reading list to reach your 2024 reading goals! Get your copy of Ghost 19 on Amazon today.

I both love and hate a short story that feels like it could have been longer. That’s such a good snippet… but I want more than a snippet!

I have that same relationship with short stories, but it’s always great when they leave you wanting more! Thank you for reading ER.

I think this is something I would enjoy reading, and will add it to my list. I have not read many shorter thrillers, but it’s in my wheelhouse, and I need to get back into reading something like this! Creepy basements are always very scary/intriguing!

I recommend this author for thrillers! I hope you enjoy this story, Molly.
