Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six was my first introduction to Unger’s work. She did a great job setting the tone and the subject matter was very unique. I appreciated the amount of research she did for this book. Although I enjoyed the overall story, I had an issue with the characters and their likability. Connecting and caring about a character’s arc is important to me, and while they were hiding very dark secrets, I didn’t expect all of them to be so unlikeable.
That brings me to my second point… This story had way too many characters and moving parts, some of which didn’t even get a proper resolve. There are over 22 characters in this story and it’s told from 6+ POVS, including one from a character that seemingly has nothing to do with the story, but eventually ties in. I found myself spending a few minutes each time flipping through to try to remember who was who and that took away from my reading experience.
Nonetheless, Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six was an entertaining book that I’d recommend to genre fans. There were lots of twists, turns, and surprises to keep you hooked. I highly recommend taking notes to keep track of all the characters and timelines for a better reading experience. I’m looking forward to reading more of Unger’s work because she does a fantastic job setting the tone for thrillers. Get your copy of Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six on Amazon today.

I haven’t heard of this book before, but I do enjoy thrillers and the plot does sound interesting. However, 22 characters is A LOT to keep track of especially when you already have 6 different POVs to read!

The story as a whole had an interesting and unique topic, but it was definitely difficult to keep track of. Thank you for reading Karalee!

The amount of characters would make us so confused. The plot sounds interesting but six POVs might be too many for a thriller.

Likeability is vital to my reading enjoyment. I need to feel connected to the characters and if they aren’t likeable I’m just not invested in the story. 22 characters are just too many for me especially when reading so many POVs. Great review. I was on the fence with this book but I’ll pass.
Her Digital Coffee says
100%! It’s hard to enjoy any sort of payoff if the characters aren’t likeable. Thank you for reading Jodie!

As soon as you said, “3 couples” I thought nope. I really struggle with a lot of characters too and trying to remember who is with who sounds like a nightmare haha! Shame they weren’t particularly likeable either.

I didn’t expect there to be so many characters, it was definitely hard to keep track of. Thank you for reading Jenny!
