One thing that we all admire about fall is the gorgeous array of vibrant colors. As the seasons change, we’re inspired to bring these colors into our homes. If you’re a fan of DIY projects for home décor, I’m going to share some zero waste materials you can use in your crafts.

Say goodbye to plastic décor and single use pieces, and say hello to natural, compostable, and some edible pieces that’ll elevate your project. This year let’s get creative and choose sustainable décor options for fall. Don’t worry, it’s much easier and affordable than you may think! Here are 4 easy ideas for zero waste fall DIY décor.
1) Fall Shadow Box If you’re looking for a piece of décor that’s versatile and can be used throughout the seasons, then you need a shadow box. Shadow boxes allow you to show off your memorabilia, whether it be flat or 3D designs. They’re perfect if you like to switch up your style often and are especially great for holiday décor. Collect a few leaves, twigs, and pinecones on your next walk. Arrange a beautiful display on paper with some hot glue, insert your creative piece in the shadow box, and you have yourself a creative piece of sustainable fall décor. Since the leaves haven’t fallen yet, check out the shadow box I created in just 10 minutes with what I already had in my home on Instagram.
2) Natural Grapevine Wreath Create a beautiful rustic piece of décor with this natural grapevine wreath. You can choose to add a few pieces for a minimalistic feel or go all out for a fuller look. Some examples of sustainable materials to use include leaves, branches, flowers, pinecones, succulents, eucalyptus, and dehydrated fruits like citruses. While this fresh wreath may not last as long, it’s a great sustainable option to faux/plastic materials. You can reuse this natural grapevine wreath all year round!
3) Leaf Wall Hanging A quick and easy way to bring the colors of fall into your home is by creating a leaf wall hanging. Collect a long twig and a handful of leaves on your next outing. Decide how long you’d like your wall hanging to be and hot glue pieces of the coconut fibre rope to the twig. Then begin adding the leaves to each piece. All materials except for the hot glue are biodegradable and eco-friendly.
4) Pumpkins and Squashes It’s not fall unless there are pumpkins involved! Skip the plastic pumpkins this year and pick up a fresh at your local grocery store or pumpkin patch. Whether they’re sitting on the mantle or windowsill, you can make yourself a festive meal once you’re done using them as décor.
There are so many sustainable décor pieces to add to your DIY projects. Not only do they give your project a rustic look, but it’s also affordable and better for the environment. I hope this post inspires you to get creative with what nature has to offer. For more eco-friendly related posts, visit my tag here.
