The past two years have been a rollercoaster ride. This pandemic has taught us the importance of taking care of our mental health. We’ve all experienced a change in routine, scenery, and lifestyle. Needless to say, these changes have not been easy. One important tool that has helped me handle stress, burnout, anxiety, and fear, are wellness books.

I’m always reading two books at once, one of which is always includes self-help. These books have given me the tools to correct negative patterns, be mindful, and stay present. Since many of us are experiencing the same feelings, I created a list of wellness books you can gift this holiday season.
5 Wellness Books to Gift This Holiday Season
1) The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking
Hooga? Hhyooguh? Heurgh? It is not really important how you choose to pronounce or even spell ‘hygge’. What is important is that you feel it. Whether you’re cuddled up on a sofa with a loved one, or sharing comfort food with your closest friends, hygge is about creating an atmosphere where we can let your guard down.
Hygge is an entertaining and beautiful read about taking pleasures in things that make us feel happy and safe. Wiking is the CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen. He explores why Denmark is the happiest country in the world, while teaching you to be more hygge.
Enjoying a hot cup of coffee around a crackling fireplace with loved ones during a storm is hygge. Devoting an entire afternoon to making a meal and reading a book while it’s simmering on the stove is hygge. (This book even includes thoughtful and delicious recipes to try!) Discover a happier way of life with the simple pleasures of hygge.
2) Just a Thought by Amy Johnson
You are not your thoughts! Learn how to overcome negative thinking habits and self-doubt so you can experience more confidence, freedom, and peace of mind.
Just a Thought is an easy read that contains a mix of personal client stories with a healthy sprinkle of informative research. If you’re not looking for something that reads like a textbook, this is a great choice.
What I enjoyed most about this book was hearing Johnson’s client stories. Many of them struggled with the same thing, the only difference being certain details. It truly goes to show that we’re not alone. Read my full review here.
3) yesterday i was the moon by Noor Unnahar
Noor Unnahar is a young female voice with power and depth. The Pakistani poet’s moving, personal work collects and makes sense of the phases of collapsing and rebuilding one’s self on the treacherous modern path from teenager to adult.
yesterday i was the moon is a collection of thought-provoking poems that center around loss, self-discovery, heritage, and love. This is a perfect addition for a poetry lover or for those who are getting into reading. These short yet sweet pieces always provide a sense of comfort and relief. Whenever I am looking for a boost of motivation or strength, I reach for this book. Read my full review here.
4) Nightfall Colouring Book by Maria Trolle
Step into nightfall, as the boundary between day and night blurs and shadows begin to appear. Let your imagination roam (inside or outside the lines), as you bring to life the woodland creatures who live among the lush flora of this magical garden, and the whimsical fairies who call these creatures friends.
I used to spend hours colouring as a child. I got back into my love for it once I saw these beautiful adult colouring books at the bookstore. I’m a night owl, so naturally I was immediately drawn to Nightfall.
There are 96 pages of beautifully detailed images of flowers, animals, the night sky, and more. Listen to your favorite album or podcast while getting lost in the magical illustrations. (The hardcover also makes it super easy to colour anywhere!)
5) The Five-Minute Journal by Intelligent Change
Coined the simplest, most effective thing you can do everyday to be happier, “The Five Minute Journal” has been created by combining the proven elements of positive psychology that can make all of the difference in your life. From daily affirmations, to list-prompts that encourage you to reflect and evaluate, this five minute pastime is an inspiring way to start and end your day.
This simple yet effective journal is designed to help you reflect and evaluate. By incorporating journaling into your daily routine, you are creating positive and mindful habits. Set the tone for the day by writing down your intentions and let go at the end of a long day by practicing gratitude.
I hope these titles encourage you and your loved ones to practice mindfulness and to make time for self-care. What do you think about this list of wellness books? Are there any you’d like to read for yourself? If you have any suggestions of your own, I’d love to hear them! It can be difficult to stay positive at times, but let’s continue to encourage, uplift, and support one another.

You’ve got some lovely suggestions here. I’ve heard of the book Hygge before but didn’t know anything about it. I do love it’s message behind it too. I must admit, I do love adult colouring books and this week, as we’ve had loads of rain, I’ve been colouring with my little girl. I’ve got an Outlander colouring book, so it’s perfect for raining days 🙂
Her Digital Coffee says
That sounds so lovely! It is a perfect activity for a rainy day. Thanks for reading Lindsay!
