yesterday i was the moon is a collection of genuine, sincere, and passionate poems by Noor Unnahar. Unnahar is a modern-day artist and poet. She is well-known for using a blend of text, illustrations, and photography to bring her works to life. In this book, she explores self-love, personal struggles, culture, acceptance, and more.
Unnahar has a beautiful way with words. Each piece was original, incredibly touching, and heartfelt. Many poems from yesterday i was the moon are short and simple, yet incredibly thought provoking. I tend to favor shorter pieces when it comes to poetry, especially ones that encourage you to think on a deeper level.
As mentioned previously, Unnahar uses a blend of text and art in her work. The black and white illustrations in this book complimented each piece perfectly. Visuals of any sort is always appreciated because reading something and seeing something can give you a new perspective or alter it. I’d love to share a few of my favorite poems with you from yesterday i was the moon.
you look like a museum to me
standing firm in a chaotic city
calm in spite of all the urban noise
and beautifully aware of all the art
that resides in you
i am building
where the floor is
made up of strength
where the walls are
crafted of ambition
where the roof is
a masterpiece of forgiveness
i am building
nothing teaches better
than this trio
the fears, the tears, the years
yesterday i was the moon contains so many gems and these are just a few pieces that I wanted to share with you. I love the blend of visual arts and poetry.
