Family Day is a public holiday in Canada. This year, it falls on Monday, February 21st. It’s a day to rejoice and spend time with your loved ones. Many Canadians take this opportunity to rest and spend time at home, while others use this time to go sight-seeing and spend time outdoors.

If you’re looking for some ideas, I’ve included both indoor and outdoor activities the whole family can enjoy. Here are 6 exciting things to do this Family Day long weekend.
Staying In
1) Spring Cleaning Is there a space you’d like to transform into a functional one? Get the family together and make this holiday a productive one. Play your favorite music and come up with a reward you can all enjoy afterwards, such as ordering pizza. If you’re competitive, you can set a time limit and see who can clean the fastest.

2) Play Games Online Nothing brings the family together like playing games. We often share the most laughs and make the best memories when doing so. If you plan on staying in, I highly recommend visiting Solitaire.org.
The games on this website load quickly, includes helpful information on how to play, and offers free fun for the entire family. Solitaire.org focuses on more than just card games, they also have mah-jong, hidden object, matching, logic puzzles, and word games. Although if you love card games, you’ve come to the right place as they have a ton to choose from!

My favorite game is Hidden Objects. You can choose from 8 different styles including the Medieval Castle, Pirates and Treasures, Circus Adventure, and more. My favorite styles are The Palace Hotel and Garden Secrets.
I love playing this with family members because as the game gets harder with each level, you have an extra set of eyes! This game also offers a nostalgic feel as it reminds me of my childhood love for iSpy books. I also love Candy House. It’s a game inspired by Candy Crush. There are 50 levels to beat and it’s a relaxing game I love playing before bed.
3) Have a Barbeque Enjoy the outdoors without leaving the comfort of your home by having a backyard barbeque. You can assign everyone a task, such as grilling, making deserts, making drinks, and setting up the table. If the weather doesn’t call for an outdoor barbeque, consider an indoor one! I recently purchased an indoor grill and used it for the first time this week. It was easy to use, smokeless, and the food tasted delicious!
Going Out
4) Go on a Road Trip Take advantage of the warmer weather by going on a memorable road trip with your loved ones. Nothing beats the beautiful scenery, exciting stops, and iconic landmarks. Create a playlist filled with your favorite songs, stock up on snacks, and enjoy the adventure. Road trips offer a change in scenery, shopping, indulging in delicious foods, enjoying the outdoors, and exercise!

5) Movie Night Out Treat yourself and your family to a night out at the movie theater. Enjoy some time outside of your home and indulge in some delicious movie snacks. I went to see Scream a few weeks ago and it brought back a sense of normalcy. Some great family friendly films that are in theatres include Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sing 2, and Encanto.
6) Explore Your City How much of your city have you seen and experienced? We’re often too busy with our professional and personal lives that we miss out on what our city has to offer. Consider exploring your city on foot this Family Day. Breathe in the fresh air and get some exercise. If you love art and history, check to see if the museums and galleries are open. They are always new exhibitions to experience. I guarantee that you and your family will discover a brand-new restaurant, bakery, or cute local shop along the way!
No matter what your plans may be for this Family Day long weekend, I hope it’s filled with love! Do you have any traditions? Are there any activities you’re looking forward to? I’d love to know!
Great post! A family is the best team you could ever have

That’s wonderful Canada has a family day! These are all great suggestions of things to do & if there was a family say in Denmark, I would probably go to the mall & see a movie with my daughter.
That sounds lovely. I hope you’ll be able to do that on a weekend or an upcoming holiday in Denmark! Thank you for reading Karalee!

On our days off, my husband and I typically either stay in and read/play video games OR go out and explore our city. So we definitely like the things on your list! Great ideas here.
That’s amazing Stephanie! These activities allow us to connect on a deeper level and best of all, they’re free! Thank you for reading!
We are all busy with our work, study and travel, but the most important thing is to spend the best and warmest family time with our family. Thanks for the article, doing the above with my family this week, learning to slow down, love family, love life!

Having a movie night out sounds like a blast for the family. I have not been to the movies in a long time. I feel like I’m catching up on old shows via streaming LOL.

I wish we had family day in the UK, it sounds lovely. I like the idea of a BBQ whatever the weather 🙂😂
I hope you’ve got a long weekend coming up soon in the UK! I’ve been using the indoor grill more than usual haha! Thank you for reading Sarah!
Love the idea of having a BBQ; the weather is not quite right for that yet but it makes for a lovely spring-touching-on-summer night! I personally connect with the idea of starting spring cleaning; if you are cleaning the house as a family, you are cleaning yourself at the same time. 🙂
That’s such a sweet way to look at it! It’s a great activity that gets everyone up and moving. Thank you for reading Jaya!
Oh I love this! I’m in the UK and hadn’t heard of Family Day before but I love playing games with my family, it’s always so much fun and a great way to spend time together. I really need to get onto my spring cleaning too! Thanks for sharing x

A public holiday called Family Day, wow! I need to move to Canada because what else am I missing out on? Smiles.
But you can almost guess on such a day; I’d chose to explore some never-before-crossed-path of my city
Hahaha I love Family Day! It’s the one holiday I look forward to each year. Exploring your city is such a treat and it’s free! Thank you for reading!
I’d love to go for a road trip when the weather warms up a bit!
Road trips are the best! I hope you can go soon. Thank you for reading!
Oh we don’t have family day – it sounds like a great holiday to have! Time with family is always so important, we love going places together as a family although it’s mostly playgrounds we visit at the moment while the kids are young, haha!
Hope your week is off to a good start! Another wet week here 🙂
Time spent at the playground sounds so nice, whether it’s playing along or just enjoying the fresh air! Thank you for reading Mica! I hope the weather gets warmer, drier, and sunnier this week!
I’ve never heard of Family Day before, but what a great idea. I love the games suggestion. I’m going to download that, as I think it would be something fun to do with the fam. Also, being a tourist in your own city is a great idea. So many people are quick to rush abroad without seeing what they have in their own backyards – somethings they’re often free too! 🙂
I hope you enjoy the games! They’re a ton of fun and a great way to unwind. I can’t count the amount of times I’ve driven past a place or walked by and thought, “I didn’t know that was there!” Haha exploring your city is a great one to do often and it’s free! Thank you for reading Lindsay!
Love those ideas, simple and low cost but creates invaluable memories for everyone and one day the kids will cherish those.
Our main family days are for now house renovation. Hoping boys will learn main building skills for their future also 🙂
I love that your family days are for house renovations! It’s a great skill to have, all while creating beautiful memories. Thank you for reading!
