Screens have become an essential part of our daily lives. If we’re not working in front of one, we’re scrolling on our phones, or ending the day with a show or movie on the television.

This holiday season, try giving yourself (and your eyes) a break from the screens and spend some real quality time with the people who matter most. Here are 5 screen-free activities to enjoy with your loved ones this holiday season.
1) Coloring Books Coloring isn’t just for kids, it’s a relaxing and therapeutic activity for adults too. Whether you’re into intricate mandalas, nature scenes, or festive holiday themes, there’s a coloring book for everyone.
I’m loving the… Dual Tip Alcohol Markers, Cozy Christmas Coloring Book, and Fuzzy Hygge Coloring Book
2) Board Games You can’t go wrong with game night. Board and card games are a timeless way to get everyone laughing and in a competitive nature. If you don’t have many games to choose from, ask guests to bring one of their favorites so you can rotate and discover something new together.
Can’t go wrong with the classics… Monopoly and Clue
3) Paint by Numbers This has become one of my personal favorite activities in the last few years. I recently got creative with one of the smaller kits and was so pleased with how it turned out. Michael’s has a huge selection to choose from and you’ll end up with a lovely keepsake from the holidays.
You’ll love… Cat with Florals, Sunset Field Frame, Cat in Pond Kit, and Daises Acrylic Kit
4) Puzzles Want a fun group activity that can stretch over several days during the holidays? If so, puzzles are the answer. Whether it’s a winter landscape or a cozy cabin scene, each person can choose which area to work on and it’s a peaceful way to unwind, chat, and collaborate.
Check out… Winners, Marshalls, and Walmart have a great selection of affordable puzzles. 500-1000 pieces range from $12.99 – $25.99 CAD.
5) Bake Together Nothing brings people together like food. Turn on some festive music and start sharing recipes or try making something new altogether. Whether it’s a festive latte, peppermint bark, or gingerbread cookies, it’s a hands-on activity that everyone will enjoy.
Some more screen-free activities to enjoy…
- Call or video chat with out-of-town family together
- Go for a walk to see Christmas lights in the neighborhood
- Visit the holiday markets
- Check out books from your local library
- Put together a gingerbread house
- Bring the entire family to a public skating rink
The holidays are about creating moments that feel personal and memorable. Whether it’s coloring, painting, or baking, these small, screen-free moments can help you reconnect with what makes the holidays truly special. What are some of your favorite screen-free activities to enjoy with friends and family? I’d love to know.
