Today is the official start of summer! How exciting is that? As the sun stays out longer, it leaves us with more time to enjoy ourselves. If you’re looking forward to a summer filled with fun activities to enjoy either by yourself or with company, I’ve got 8 great ideas for you!
There are so many things to look forward besides the nice weather. Perhaps you want to try a new restaurant and check out their roof top patio, or maybe you want to finally start a project or hobby you’ve been thinking about for a while. Whether you want to soak up the sun or stay indoors and enjoy the AC, there’s an activity here for everyone. Here’s to having the best summer ever! Here are 8 activities to enjoy this summer.
Indoor Activities
1) Declutter Decluttering is always a great idea, but especially during the summertime. I spent most of my time decluttering in December through February and the snowy weather made it difficult to make frequent trips for donation drop offs. With the long sunny days, you can be sure that you won’t have bags or boxes of stuff laying around waiting to be dropped off like I did!
2) Decorate Summer is all about vibrant colors. Why not bring some of that colorful inspiration into your home? Whether it’s a DIY project such as painting or refreshing an entire area of your home with furniture and decorative pieces, it’s a great way to get the creativity flowing without breaking a sweat.
3) Summer Reads There’s nothing I love more than enjoying a good book while basking in the warm summer sun. Read your book next to an open window, on your balcony, deck, front porch, sunroom, or on comfortable patio furniture in your yard. You know I love horror and mystery, so two summer books I’m looking forward to reading include The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager and How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix. What’s on your summer reading list?
4) New Hobby What is something you’ve always wanted to do or start but haven’t? Is there a hobby or skill that comes to mind? If so, now’s the perfect time to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. In correlation to decorating your home, you can try a new DIY project such as painting and hanging your work in your office. Or spend some time in your garden and grow your own vegetables. Or take free courses through Alison and earn free certificates and degrees!
Outdoor Activities
5) Thrifting Add some new and fun pieces to your summer wardrobe by visiting your local thrift shops. Thrifting is not only a great way to save money, but it’s also positively impacts the environment. Rather than spending money on fast fashion, you could possibly find better gently used pieces that are made with higher quality material.
6) Rooftop Patio What’s better than enjoying a nice lunch or dinner on a rooftop patio? Enjoy the music, good conversation, and cool drinks. Take advantage of the warm weather while admiring the beautiful view of the city.
7) Swimming Get your swimsuits on, we’re going to the pool! Swimming is a great physical activity that helps to build strength and works out your entire body. It’s an activity you can enjoy with anyone! Whether you prefer an indoor pool, outdoor pool, a lake, or the ocean, you can guarantee you’ll get a goodnight’s sleep from all that physical activity.
8) Visit a Historical Landmark What historical landmarks exist in your city? If you love learning more about your city’s rich history, it’s a great activity to enjoy with your family and friends. Discover persevered heritage buildings, museums, exhibits, shops, restaurants, and more!
How will you be celebrating the beginning of summer? What are you looking forward to? Are there any activities would you add to this list? I can’t wait to hear your suggestions! For more summer activity ideas, such as berry picking, visit my post here.

It’s been hot here for ages so both kids have been enrolled in swimming classes for the past few months. The added benefit is that I get to attend as well. I feel so relaxed in the water, I could easily fall asleep if I were on a pool float. Cheers to a great summer!
