Have you been struggling with your productivity? No matter how organized we may be, we’re all familiar with times when it’s hard to focus. It doesn’t help that there are so many distractions in place, whether it be our phones, computers, or just life in general.
Getting started is always the hard part, but once you buckle down and create a realistic approach that works for you, it becomes much easier to focus on the task at hand. Here are 7 simple ways to boost your productivity!
1) Eat a healthy breakfast. Raise your hand if you’ve ever dealt with brain fog or felt sluggish because you skipped breakfast. *Raises hand* Brain fuel is so important and it’ll give you the energy and focus that you’ll need to start your day. If you’re not big on breakfast like me, try a fruit smoothie. If you tend to skip breakfast due to time constraints, try easy and delicious recipes that can be prepared the night before such as overnight oats or a breakfast casserole.
2) Create a realistic to-do list. Creating a realistic to-do list for the day gives you a visual of your tasks and their priority. It also relieves the pressure of trying to remember every few hours of what needs to be completed. Having this visual also gives you a chance to evenly distribute tasks throughout the week rather than trying to tackle everything all at once.
3) Choose the right workspace. The environment in which you choose to work can drastically increase or decrease your productivity. Find a comfortable and calm workspace where you can minimize distractions. This could be in the comfort of your own room, a home office, a library, a coffee shop nearby, or even a quiet spot outdoors – with Wi-Fi of course!
4) Listen to music. Music can create a calming atmosphere that can help you focus. Listen to your personal playlist, or if you’re like me and get easily distracted by your favorite songs, listen to instrumentals or jazz. YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music all have a great selection of study and work music suited for any mood. My go-to platform is YouTube and my two favorite channels include Little Love Jazz and Jazzy Coffee.
5) Order your favorite beverage. Treat yourself! There’s something that makes working on projects less stressful and more calming when you have a steaming hot latte, iced coffee, or a cup of herbal tea on your desk. Having a beverage around also ensures that you’re staying hydrated!
6) Put your phone away. Put your phone in a drawer or in another room while you work. Once it’s out of sight, it minimizes distractions so you can focus on the task at hand. In the event you do require your phone for work, utilize that ‘Do Not Disturb’ function. If you have an iPhone, the newest iOS feature includes Work Focus, which you can set up to allow notifications from important people/apps while silencing the rest.
7) Take a break. Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is take a break. Stepping away for a few minutes or a few hours can allow your mind and body to reset before focusing on your work. A few suggestions include going outside for a walk, talking to a loved one, or meditation.
I hope these tips will help you on days where it’s harder to focus and be productive. What are some tips that help you with productivity? I’d love to hear your thoughts! For more posts relating to productivity, visit my tag here.
